The OFFICE ON MUSLIM AFFAIRS (OMA) is created in 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 122-A as amended by Executive Order No. 295. The Office is subject to the supervision and control of the OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT of the Philippines. Aside from being an agency mandated to uplift and improve the conditions of the Muslim Filipinos, OMA is also the main institution provided under the Philippine government tasked to address the various issues facing Muslim Communities.
OMA acts as the bridge of the government in ensuring the participation of Filipino Muslims in nation building. The charter of the Office provides a strong mandate with a broader and wider latitude of functions and responsibilities. On the other hand, OMA is further mandated by law to preserve and develop the culture, traditions, institutions and well-being of Muslim Filipinos in conformity with the country’s laws and in consonance with national unity and development. OMA is also tasked with the formulation and implementation of State policies and programs affecting Muslims residing in the Philippines.
